Speeding Tickets

Many people think that once they receive a speeding ticket, their only option is to pay the fine and admit guilt. In reality, although paying the fine may seem like the easiest option, it can cost you a great deal down the road.

In New York, you accrue additional points against your driver’s license for each subsequent traffic ticket that you receive — which is why it’s critical to work with a lawyer to fight each ticket.

The more points you have on your license, the more severe the penalties. In addition to DMV assessment fines and court fines increasing, you may also be facing higher insurance rates, driver’s license suspension or revocation, and possible jail time.

At Lerner & Lerner, P.C., we understand the lasting effect speeding tickets have on our clients’ lives, and we fight to have charges reduced or dropped. We represent individuals in Nassau County who receive speeding tickets or other traffic violations.

You Will Get Points Against Your Record For Speeding Tickets

If you receive a speeding ticket, the number of points against your driver’s license is determined by how many mph over the posted speed limit you were driving. The points are broken down as follows:

  • 1-10 mph over posted limit = 3 points
  • 11-20 mph over posted limit = 4 points
  • 21-30 mph over posted limit = 6 points
  • 31-40 mph over posted limit = 8 points
  • More than 40 mph over posted limit = 11 points

Our attorneys fight to reduce the costs our clients face or to have the speeding ticket dismissed entirely. Learn more about the counsel we provide and the reasons you should fight your tickets by scheduling an initial consultation. We can be reached through email or by calling 516-741-4100.
